Portraits of US
As part of the Kennedy Center’s 2026 Promise of US programming, the public is invited to submit an artistic self-portrait to be part of a virtual wall of faces expressing the myriad diversity of America’s peoples and the promise of America’s future. This ever-expanding mosaic will be featured on the Center’s website and social channels.
Submission Process & Guidelines
Important: Please read these rules before submitting an entry in Portraits of US. By submitting an entry, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and represent that you have read and understood all requirements set forth below.
- Portraits will be accepted beginning July 9, 2024 through Dec. 31, 2025. Registration and participation is free of charge.
- Artist must be a legal resident of the United States.
Artworks must meet the criteria below:
- Images should be of a face, realistic or abstract.
- Artwork may be created in any medium but the final submission should be a digital image that is 3000 x 3000 pixels (square) at 300 ppi. Original art cannot be accepted. Jpg format is preferred.
- NO TEXT (in any language) may be involved in any element of the submitted piece.
- Work that suggests visual plagiarism, such as directly copying another artists’ work, will not be considered.
- Submission does not guarantee acceptance. èßäAVretains the right to reject images that do not meet the submission guidelines or are offensive or inflammatory.
- By submitting a portrait, the applicant grants the Kennedy Center a non-exclusive license to use the image on the website, social media, and marketing materials for The Promise of US. No payment will be made for any usage under this license.
